The Center for Arts and Engineering is a <p-color-blue>coworking space<p-color-blue> that seeks to <p-color-blue>bridge the linear and nonlinear modes of thinking<p-color-blue> of the arts and the sciences to foster an environment that <p-color-blue>cultivates new modes of working and making<p-color-blue>. A remodel of an existing office space, the CAE proposes <p-color-blue>a series of large subtractions<p-color-blue> to create a large, <p-color-blue>terraced interior space<p-color-blue>.

The coworking spaces terrace and rotate upwards, aligned to their own internal logic. They are spaces for people to work collaboratively across disciplines, and learn from each other.
The tension between these terraces and the strict grid system embodies the tensions between the different disciplines inhabiting the space.
A cafe which is accessed from the exterior looks into the building, creating a contrast between that which looks in and out.
‍
The formal moves which create the internal space punch outwards into the building, leaving their imprint on the facade.
