Villa La Saracena, designed by Luigi Moretti, is a beach house located in Santa Marinella
Located in the 'St Tropez' of Italy during the 50s and 60s, Santa Marinella is today a beach town frozen in time, with residences like La Saracena existing as monuments to the era.
The villa was designed for Luciana Pignatelli d'Aragona Cortez, who at the time was married to a prince of Spain.
The home defies gravity with massive volumes cantilevering impossibly far over interior areas, with seemingly nothing to support them, sometimes landing on nothing but a single pane of glass.
This gives a feeling of lightness to the volumes, which creates the sensation that the corridors and rooms are floating as the views extend out towards the Mediterranean.
Organized by one major lateral move and one major longitudinal move, Moretti divides the lot into a front yard which closes in on itself, and a backyard which practically sits directly on top of the water.
